Common questions

My phone and Mac will not pair
  • Both devices must be on the same Wi-Fi network. A guest network, or a router that isolates devices from each other, can block it.
  • Open the tomac app on your phone first, so it is switched on and waiting.
  • Choose Pair this Mac from the tomac menu on your Mac. Both screens show the same six digit number. If they match, tap Allow on your phone.
  • If your phone already shows a pairing request, answer or dismiss it first, then try again.
  • On your Mac, open System Settings, then Privacy and Security, then Local Network, and make sure tomac is switched on. Without it the Mac cannot find your phone.
I got a new phone. Do I need to pair again?

Yes. Pairing belongs to one phone. On your Mac, choose Unpair if it is offered (or Pair again if the menu says tomac needs pairing again), then pair with the new phone. It takes about ten seconds. A new router needs nothing: tomac finds your phone by name each time.

Verification codes are not appearing on my Mac
  • On your phone, open Android Settings and check that tomac has notification access. tomac reads codes from notifications, so it cannot see them without it.
  • Check that the phone and Mac are still connected. The tomac menu on your Mac shows the state.
  • Some Android phones stop apps in the background to save power. In Android Settings, open the tomac app info, choose Battery, and set it to unrestricted (the wording varies by phone maker).
  • A code must arrive as a notification. A message you have muted or hidden from the lock screen may not be passed on.
Notifications are not mirrored, or I want to stop them

In the tomac menu on your Mac, Mirror notifications is a switch. If it is on and nothing arrives, the menu shows a link to open Notification settings: allow tomac there. You can mute single apps, and the Muted apps list in the same menu lets you unmute them. tomac skips its own notifications, silent ones, group summaries and anything you marked secret on the lock screen.

tomac does not start when I log in to my Mac

Open at Login is off until you choose it. Click the tomac icon in the menu bar and tick Open at Login. Untick it to turn it off again. tomac only copies codes while it is running, so if the menu bar icon is missing, open the app again.

How do I unpair, and what data does tomac keep?

Click the tomac icon in the menu bar and choose Unpair. This removes the phone's pairing details and any authenticator account names from your Mac. On your phone, you can stop sharing at any time by switching tomac off, removing its notification access in Android Settings, or uninstalling it. tomac has no account and no server, so there is nothing to delete online. Details are on the privacy page.

How do I get a refund?

Purchases are handled by the store you bought from, so refunds are too. For the Mac app, request one through Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. The Android app is free; for any Google Play purchase, request a refund through Google Play.
